Aye, this theory 'as been around for awhile now. Now you keep in mind that many of them pirates be also - at least sometimes - privateers, attacking ships under other flags.

This be part of a theory of diverse sources of American democracy: Locke, Rousseau, pirates, Native Americans, Pilgrams, Scottish tax-evaders, etc.

An interesting, if flawed article. It didn't mention the role of the Captain's parrot even once, and where was the examination of plank walking?
