Hancock -- early word
From a Hollywood Reporter blog:

And to think, we were really looking forward to "Hancock."

And then we saw it. So did a bunch of other people who walked out of last night's screening in Hollywood scratching their heads.

So as not to fill a post with pure vitriol, we let it sit. Didn't help. The more we've thought about it today, the more disappointed we are with the mishmash of over-the-top CGI, incomprehensible drama in black comedy's clothing, "love story" and whatever else was thrown into that high-priced misfire.

In a word: terrible.

From Variety's review:

"All the potential the premise seemed to offer is frittered away, mind-boggling gaps of logic come to the fore, and arbitrary plot devices serve to shortchange a story that could have gone in much more interesting directions."

Ya read a synopsis about the plot from either io9 or FirstShowing. Pretty much made me believe that the best of the movie are the whack CG superhero stuff that we've alrdy seen in the trailers.

Thank gosh there are some other superhero movie coming around the corner so we can avoid this crap. I guess that means I;ll have to go see Kit Kitridge on 7/2 weekend.

That's a shame, although not too surprised. It looked like it would be Will Smith's evangelical Scientology vehicle under the surface. I guess it will be as good as Battlefield Earth, too. At least I can write it off and not be too conflicted if my theory turned out to be right.
